A World Gone Crazy
Reprinted from 09-2021
“The world has completely gone crazy!”, I hear people saying this almost daily. We have never experienced crazy times like we are experiencing today they say. What is going on? Have we lost our collective minds here on planet earth?
I’m not sure mystery writers like Agatha Christie could have come up with this plot of what’s going on in our world today. Christie had an incredible talent for writing suspense-filled mysteries with complex, intricate plots full of unexpected twists and turns. But it seems our real life, and our history, are even crazier than her excellent mysteries.
Most people think the world is more crazy than ever before.
But is it really more crazy than in the past? Are things really that different? Or are we just experiencing history as it repeats itself with only slightly different details?
Henry
There was a man named Henry that was born in the year 1900. When Henry turned 14 years old, a world war broke out. WWI was so devastating for the times that it’s still called, The Great War. Twenty million people died in that war and twenty-one million more were wounded.
That’s more than forty million casualties!
Just as World War I ends, the entire planet is rocked by a pandemic called, The Spanish Flu that started in 1918. Fifty million people died in that flu pandemic that lasted only two years. The virus affected people physically, mentally and had a large impact on the world economy at that time.
As the world was getting back to some normalcy in 1929, the US stock market crashed and caused, The Great Depression which lasted ten years. The Great Depression affected every country on earth.
Henry was not yet 25 years old at the start of, The Great Depression. After ten long years the Depression finally ended. But before the world could catch a breath, World War II started. Imagine how the world felt when we learned that Hitler was killing millions of Jewish people and trying, and almost succeeding, in taking over the entire planet.
Henry was 41 years old when the US dropped devastating and horrific atomic bombs on Japan and 45 years old when WWII ended.
Henry lived through two world wars, a worldwide pandemic, a stock market crash and subsequent worldwide economic depression.
Henry lived through some crazy times!

Sadly, sometimes we have to get to the darkest part of the night before people will be able to see what we are doing to ourselves. It’s probably why we only live 100 years each life so we get to go through this over and over again until we finally figure it out. Great post Vickie.

We are so blind to history and then we are doomed to repeat it over and over. Thanks, Cari

Sure, history repeats itself with minor variations, often technological ones. Just as we, as reincarnating individuals, repeat situations and challenges in order to maybe handle them better, so do societies. Behaviour patterns, I find, repeat themselves on all levels of sentient life. Propelled by that variety of impulses, from instinct to intuition. The “wild, crazy” factor depends on how much attention one pays and how deep one is willing to go. Career and family often hold inquisitive folk back until retirement and then they get the shock of their lives when greed, deception and corruption become the norm rather than the ‘scandal’.

Even though things can be hard, history repeats itself, and life can seem unjust at times, it is us that keeps choosing earth life again and again no matter how deceptive and corrupt it is. We can’t get this kind of free will on most other planets and we already knew what we were getting ourselves into before we came. There is a lot to love about earth and this lifetime too.
