My Time in a Deprivation Tank

Sensory deprivation; not being able to see, hear, or even feel, that’s the experience of floating in very salty water, alone and in complete darkness. Joe Rogan said he felt like his own experience in a deprivation tank felt like the strongest psychedelic drug he had ever experienced. I would have to agree with Joe.

Rogan was so impressed by the sensory deprivation tank that he had one installed in his basement.

“You’re incredibly buoyant, and you lie in this thing and close the lid on it and you’re in total silence, total darkness, and when you’re floating, you can’t feel where the water begins, or the air ends. It just – it feels like you’re flying through space.”

“And in the absence of sensory input, of sight and touch and hearing, what happens is your brain induces a natural psychedelic state, and you have these incredible visions, and you have this incredible sense of connectivity. And it’s really like a psychedelic experience without drugs, and I do this all the time. I mean it’s in my basement, I’m in there all the time, and I’m in there for hours. I’ve just become more enthralled in the whole mystery of being than I was before.” ~ Joe Rogan

We have a float spa where I live and I had been curious about trying one for a while so I booked a two hour float. Each room at the spa is private with a shower and a deprivation tank. Before getting into the tank, I showered then got into the salty water and closed the lid. The temperature of the water was exactly body temperature, so I didn’t really feel the water as I lay back and floated. After I was comfortable, I pushed a small red button to turn out the dim blue light.

Now I was in complete darkness. Floating effortlessly in the dark.

After what seemed like a long time but probably was only minutes, I began to see very bright colors inside the tank. Suddenly I was expelled into the dark of space. There were only stars around me and it was completely quiet.

I saw a platform in the distance that looked as though it was lit by spotlights much the same as a football field during a big game. On the platform were three people. They each were exactly alike. Each was completely devoid of any hair, and all wore a loose-fitting blue robe. They stood side by side as if waiting for me.

When I got closer to the platform, they all moved down in unison and left me a place to stand on the platform alongside them. As I stepped into my appointed spot, I was shocked to see that I looked exactly like these people. I too wore a blue robe and had no hair at all.

After I was in place, I felt a small jolt of energy and it seemed that energy had moved through all of us on the platform at one time. The energy was a message and even though we had all received the same message, it was clearly for me. The message said, we are one.

I knew that all things were energy and all energy connected but if asked to explain how we on earth, in this lifetime are one, I would have struggled for a clear answer. We all look different, and we have different personalities so how could we be considered one?

Being a part of those people on the platform made me understand that even though each of us is different, it takes all of us to make the whole. It takes millions of individual drops of water to make up an ocean but an ocean acts as one body.
