Pendulums 101
“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration.” ~ Nicola Tesla.
That says it all, doesn’t it?
We may think we are our physical bodies, but we aren’t. We are powerful vibrational beings who can connect to the non-physical realms where our angels and guides reside. How do we do this? Through energy.
Everything is energy—not just physical objects but feelings and thoughts. Learning to recognize energy is often the first step we take before we can actively delve into nonphysical realms to explore the “secrets of the universe,” as Tesla says.
The more familiar you are with your energy field, the easier it is to recognize incoming frequencies—vibrations that are not from you. But how do we interpret these vibrations? How do we distinguish between “good” vibrations and some that, well, aren’t so good?
Luckily, there are some basic tools to help us explore this mysterious world of energy. My favorite is something I can buy or even make at home—a pendulum. If you purchase one, I suggest you keep it close; mine stays in my purse or in my pocket. Having a pendulum nearby helps attune it to your energy field.
Don’t want to order one online or go shopping? Check out your jewelry box. Hanging a ring or locket from a necklace chain or a string can be just as effective. If it’s your jewelry, it’s been in your field, so it’s ready to go.
If you are new to seeing the world through the lens of energy, tools like pendulums can reduce the guesswork by helping you with discernment. As you become more comfortable in “reading” energy, you’ll become more confident and you probably won’t rely as much on your pendulum. There are lots of videos online that can help teach you how to use a pendulum, but I like to keep it simple.
Watch the video as I demonstrate how I “train” my pendulum to answer yes and no questions. Practice. Play with it. Before you know it, your pendulum will be like a good friend, giving advice when asked. Have fun!

I really loved this video, Candie. It is so perfect for those starting out. I remember when I bought my first pendulum. I had no idea what to do with it but I was so drawn to it. It’s just simple quartz with a few crystals around it but there were so many hanging at the metaphysical store that I didn’t know which one to choose. A woman came over, she was a shopper, and she said to put my hand close to them and see which one I could feel the energy flow coming come. That’s exactly how I chose mine!
Then I got home and excitedly opened the carefully wrapped pendulum. I still had no idea what to do with it. I didn’t know people spun them around in big circles like you see on so many videos so I carefully held mine very still like you do on the video, and nothing happened. Nothing happened when I tried it for a few days, then it started to move. In my mind I connected with the energy of the pendulum and it started to move!
After a few times I began to think it was my reflexes making it move so I tried a little experiment. I tied the chain onto a holder that would hold the pendulum about an inch off the surface. Then I ask my questions, it did not move again. I realized the importance of connecting to the energy inside the pendulum. Everything is energy (even us) and all energy connects. With that in mind, I connected to the pendulum that was hanging on its own. I was not holding it. It began to move! Very slowly at first but it started. That’s how I use my pendulum now.

Vickie, I love your story. Pendulums, like crystals, seem to have a life of their own, and often they choose us, not the other way around. There can be such a great connection with your pendulum–think about it: a wise and trusted friend who connects directly to and through you–with energy.

Absolutely, its kind of like a trusted source for me now. I’ve had, and used, the very same one since metaphysical stores first started to open. They were kind of hippie looking stores back then LOL. It’s like the only one I like.

Isn’t it great, Cari? Once I learned to view the world through the lens of energy, my life changed. I can now see the effects of our thoughts and emotions. I see how interactions among people change when the intent from the heart changes. Learning to feel, see, sense energy patterns can be a life-changer!

Absolutely agree, Candie. Once we really understand, and completely believe, that all things are energy and all energy connects, it just changes everything going forward!
